IMO Failing Palin had to do one thing. She had to prove to a significant majority of Americans that she was up to the job of being President. In that she failed.

The pundits are saying that she had a good night merely because she didn't continue digging the hole she has been sitting in since the convention. That's a very low standard.

She has been a significant drag on McCain, as has McCain's own erratic and uncontrolled behavior, and maybe that will ease up. I doubt it will stop as she made too many gaffes and winks and folksy sayings that irritate many who wanted a serious debate about serious subjects.

Comedians need material and she kept bringing up energy regardless of the question and she didn't understand the nuclear question at all. She also raised the ghost of a civil war general and stuck it in Afghanistan. She winked to the camera time and again and gave a shout out to a bunch of elementary school kids.
