The key to surviving a riptide is swimming perpendicularly to the direction of the rip.

So in the inflation/deflation riptide, which direction is perpendicular?

Cash?
gold?
miners?
Treasuries?
foreign currency?
double short etf?
double long etf?
hidey-hole?
drugs?
?

As the US goes bankrupt the dollar will continue to collapse. Prices are set on world markets -- and the prices we pay will soar. Anybody who thinks that the US is a country that can be understood in anything other than a global context is blind to the facts IMO. We are utterly and completely dependent on the global economy at this point -- and the price we will pay for our financial mismanagement will be the destruction of the dollar -- there will be a riptide all right, and it will take the dollar out to sea and drown it.
