Many still consider USA to be the key to the future, instead of the problem. Those are the people who expect tomorrow to be like yesterday. I hope they are right!

dybdahl, <many> are misinformed. The root of this terrible tree of debt and excess is in America. Others did their part, but the origin of this mess was excessive credit, dirt cheap money, irresponsible practices of all kinds, and a <desire> to change the somewhat immutable laws of economics by delaying healthy recessions <forever>. So, all those pine needles on the forest floor burn like a furious bitch when they get six feet deep, and I see more than smoke, I see fire. Run forest animals, but the forest is big, and America is in the center of it. So, with that depressing nonsense out of the way, I am an optimist. Always have been, and always hope to be <g> America will rebuild after the pain. The pain is good and needed, and capitalism will prevail (although America's version is going to be more than a bit <red> before this is over). I am not a lifelong goldbug, living in a foxhole and eating military rations and powdered milk. I am a pragmatic goldbuggy. I only want to hold gold as long as I have to, for I do not enjoy the company of goldbugs. They are jittery types that worry too much and think the unusual 79 proton metal is the cure for all. It is not. Gold has a purpose to pretty much protect what you HAVE while your government behaves MORE irresponsibly than they usually do. So, yes many believe that America is a key to the future, and many others believe that unless there is a WW3, that key is going to be a much smaller one going forward. GT TH
