Joe Biden's 14 Lies

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted "the exact same way" as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, "Drill we must." But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to "raping" the Outer Continental Shelf."

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it's passage.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he's always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain's record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people's health insurance coverage -- they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska -- she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it's not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation -- he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was "dead wrong on Iraq", because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn't see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn't meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of "part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20."

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won't pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

McCain spoke forcefully on May 25, 2006, on behalf of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 (via Beltway Snark):

"Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae's regulator reported that the company's quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were "illusions deliberately and systematically created" by the company's senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae's former chief executive officer, OFHEO's report shows that over half of Mr. Raines' compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.

The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator's examination of the company's accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.

For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO's report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO's report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation."

Next in our Wednesday series of politicians views on education is John McCain, current Senator from Arizona and 2008 Republican presidential candidate.

One of the most important parts of John McCain's education policy is his fundamental belief that parents should be able to choose their child's school. He believes that all federal financial support for education should be predicated on allowing parents to move their children (and the federal money associated with those children) out of failing schools.

He also believes that all schools should have the resources and the ability to teach its students. Schools should be required to report on their progress of educating students to both the public and to parents. Teachers should be

McCain also seems to support homeschooling. His website says that all students should "have access to all schools of demonstrated excellence, including their own homes."

Governor Palin Fills Boards and Commissions Print Now Printer Friendly

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 07-036

Governor Palin Fills Boards and Commissions

February 23, 2007, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin recently announced the appointment of 45 Alaskans to various boards and commissions throughout Alaska. The appointees were chosen from a total of 287 people who applied during the Governor’s first five weeks in office.

“I’m honored by the overwhelming response we have received from Alaskans across the state willing to serve on all of our important boards,” said Governor Palin. “I appreciate their selfless efforts to share their expertise and knowledge with the rest of the state.”

Appointees to boards and commissions who serve as the head of principal departments, or are regulatory or quasi-judicial in nature, must be submitted to the Legislature within thirty days of the regular session convening.

Currently, almost 1,100 board members, spanning 105 communities across Alaska, serve the state. Governor Palin is committed to bringing more diversity and regional balance to the 122 state boards and commissions. These appointments are reflective of the Governor’s commitment.

Of note, Ben Grussendorf, a former Speaker of the House from Sitka was re-appointed to the Board of Game. Grussendorf is only the second Board of Game member to be appointed by three different governors. The other member was Sidney Huntington who served in the 1970s. “I thank Ben for his continued service to the Board of Game. He brings immeasurable knowledge and objectivity to a board that is important to so many Alaskans,” said Governor Palin.

Mr. Chuck Kopp, the City of Kenai Police Chief, was appointed to the Alaska Judicial Council, the board charged with nominating all statewide judges for the Governor’s consideration. The Governor must appoint from the names nominated by the Council. “Chief Kopp’s appointment to the Judicial Council is well deserved. I’m confident his vast statewide knowledge and his long career in the state’s criminal justice system will bring added value to a very critical board,” said Governor Palin.

A complete list of board and commissions can be found on Governor Palin’s homepage at gov.state.ak.us or by calling the Boards and Commissions office (907) 465-3500.

In accordance with Alaska Statute 39.05.080, Governor Palin submitted the following names for legislative confirmation of appointment to the boards and commissions set out below:

Biden gaffe's just keep tallying up.

_________________________________________________________________

Biden: "Pakistan already has nuclear weapons. Pakistan already has deployed nuclear weapons. Pakistan's weapons can already hit Israel and the Mediterranean."

The distance between Israel and Pakistan is 2,085 miles, or 3355 kilometers. The longest-range existing strategic nuclear missile in the Pakistani arsenal has a top range of 1000 miles.

Obviously, Biden never played Missile Command when he was dodging the draft in college. It must have been before his time.
