Rogue Dolphin: "How about World War as a solution???"

KOAN: "IMO, the primary criteria for picking a president is who is more capable of avoiding a nuclear war going forward.

As the cuban missle crises taught us, the ability of the president to understand complex problems and diplomacy gives our children the best chance of avoiding a nuclear war during the 21st century.

Anyone interested, should rent the movie 13 days with Kevin Costner as it was made using the actual transcripts from the strategy sessions in the White house.

It clearly shows that what saved us from a nuclear war during the cuban missle crises was two things:

1) John Kennedy overriding Air force general Curtis Lemay's desire to bomb the Russian's in Cuba.

2) Understadning and using complex diplomacy.

In the end, using back door diplomacy, we traded our (outdated) missles in Turkey for the Russian's removing their missles from Cuba. This allowed Kruchev/Russia to save face and get the job done. And the deal allowed us to not have to remove them for six months

So how would MCCAin and Obama handle another Cuban missles crises e.g. if Russia decided to put missles in Venezuala because Bush put missles in Poland?
