What is so great about democracy is that it resolves the delimma of large numbers of people arguing over ideas of what their society should do, through compromise. I believe we are all sort of nuts, just ambulatory-lol. so there is really no one to give power over too. A great philosopher ("Thomas Hobbs?")once said: "men make rules during times of sanity to protect themselves against times of insanity". Democracy is the best thing humans have ever figured out, but it is messy-lol. And our consitution is a wonderful document. We are about to right ship here I believe. Jefferson figued out the human species needed counter balancing institutions of power to ensure society remained free. I am pretty conservative and old fashioned when it comes to freedom and democracy.
