Polls in Ohio ``are showing increased support for Barack Obama,'' because voters are paying attention to McCain's support for privatizing Social Security, backing ``job-killing trade agreements,'' and his backing of deregulation of the banking system, Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown said on ABC's ``This Week'' program today.

A Minnesota poll of 1,084 likely voters published by the Star Tribune newspaper showed Obama leading 55-37 percent over McCain. The poll was conducted from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

"McCain's health care plan, which changes the tax treatment of health insurance, would shift more people from employer-based insurance into indivdiual coverage. But individual coverage provides much weaker protection: You get fewer benefits for the money, the benefits themselves are more inconsistent, and the potential for fraud much higher. Plus, of course, people with pre-existing conditions can't get decent coverage at anything resembling affordable prices."

"The bounce for Obama is due entirely to the economic crisis. Mr. and Mrs. America have, to-date, blamed the entire mess on the Republicans. If they continue to do so, Obama and the Democrats will win in a landslide.

Before the crisis, Mr. and Mrs. America were mad at Wall Street, Angelo Mozillo, his ilk and his minions, and ordinary people who lied about their finances and occupations to get houses they couldn't hope to afford. Now, they are mainly mad at Wall Street. Before the crisis, they were offended by class politics, the Black Caucus's self-obsession, and the "laisser-faire" wing of the Republican party. Now, they are mainly mad at the "laisser-faire" Republicans. Before, they were a little frightened by Obama's liberalism; now they are a little frightened by McCain's ostensible conservatism.

Most important, Obama, inherently a critic of much that has happened in this country in the last quarter century, suddenly looks more like a calm optimist, and McCain, whose bedrock appeal has been to tradition and patriotism, looks more like an angry crank, trying to be both Taft and TR. Optimists win; ask FDR, Reagan and...................Barry Goldwater.

Is this sudden shift in opinion entirely fair or entirely rational? Of course not. Will it last? This Republican wouldn't bet on McCain figuring out the right way to reverse it. "

An Obama spokesman claims he was a "junior lawyer" who pushed paper his entire 9 year legal career.

"The senator, relatively inexperienced in this kind of work, was assigned to tasks appropriate for a junior lawyer,'' according to an e-mail from Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs. "These tasks would have included reviewing documents, collecting corporate organizational documents, and drafting corporate resolutions.''

In fact, Gibbs wrote, "Senator Obama does not remember having conversations with Tony Rezko about properties that he owned or any specific issues related to those properties.''

And like Sgt Schultz he KNEW NOTHING about Rezko's substandard, often unheated buildings in his district.

BTW Obama gave up his law license last year.

Why didn't either of Obama's books mention his chairing the Chicago Annenberg Challenge? Guess he's ashamed of his work there.
