And these things aren't fair game because...? How many stories has the traditional media done about Ayers, Wright, etc...?

McCain was bulletproof in the media for a long time; he isn't anymore now that he's decided to antagonize them. He used to keep the negative stories about himself off of the front page by giving the media any access they wanted and he'd get to make his own news (he's acknowledged this as his strategy). Those days ended when he decided not to even let most of the media talk to his VP candidate, which is ridiculous and unprecedented. It's his own fault.

It's revealing that Obama's mainstream media supporters cannot run positive stories of the great things Obama has done in his career.

There aren't any, unless you would call being a mini-Jesse imitating Jesse's "Shakedown" routine as a community agitator as a "positive" career accomplishment.
