Obama Attack Gets Asterisk on Accuracy

Monday, October 6, 2008; Page A05

THE AD

Three-quarters of a million jobs lost this year. Our financial system in turmoil. And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy. No wonder his campaign's announced a plan to "turn a page on the financial crisis" by launching dishonest, dishonorable "assaults" against Barack Obama. Struggling families can't turn the page on this economy. And we can't afford another president who's this out of touch.

ANALYSIS

This Barack Obama ad uses some disingenuous sleight of hand to convey the impression that The Washington Post is calling John McCain's campaign untruthful.

The commercial is largely accurate, using newspaper excerpts to buttress the impression that the senator from Arizona was less than steady in responding to the Wall Street crisis (while showing McCain in a golf cart). As McCain first said the economy's fundamentals were sound, then ratcheted up his rhetoric and plunged into congressional bailout talks, a USA Today editorial called his conduct "erratic" and "out of touch."

The ad doesn't mention that the same editorial said, "Granted, Democrat Barack Obama also has scant experience dealing with financial crises."

A Post news article Saturday -- a facsimile of which is pictured in the ad -- did say that McCain and his GOP allies are readying a newly aggressive assault on Obama's judgment, honesty and personal associations, and it quoted a McCain aide talking about turning a page on the financial crisis. But when the narrator talks about "dishonest, dishonorable assaults" against the senator from Illinois, the first two words are the Obama campaign's, not The Post's. While the on-screen graphic says " 'assault' on Obama," the narrator's words run together in a way that could easily mislead the casual viewer.

With its images of a Wall Street trading floor and an "average" family, the spot attempts to play on economic anxieties, a strong issue for Obama, and depict McCain (who, as usual, is pictured with President Bush) as disconnected from those problems. At the same time, the ad, which was leaked yesterday, tries to inoculate Obama against future McCain commercials that may play up his links to convicted businessman Antoin "Tony" Rezko and onetime terrorist William Ayers.

Barack Obama is not a naive man unprepared for the Presidency. He has chosen his mentors well to prepare him for the socialist economic and amoral agenda he plans for America. Also, he has lots of experience in making decisions and acting out his philosophy...
Including the following:
1. In his book, admitted receiving career plans laid out for him by high school mentor and "father figure" Frank Marshall Davis, a longtime member of the Communist Party, who influenced Obama to move to Chicago and become a covert activist, providing him with introductions to Communist Party cohorts Paul Robeson, Carl Davidson and socialist subversive William Ayers.,

2. 20 years with his acknowledged mentor Rev. Wright's "God damn America" racist "church,
3. Lying on his Illinois Bar Application caused him to have to surrender his law license to stop further investigation,
4. In his book, he admits habitual marijuana and cocaine use, an addictive personality, violating US narcotics laws,
5. Numerous reports of gay boyfriends in Chicago, Larry Sinclair, and "sealed" testimony regarding his relationship to persons involved in the murder of a black gay man in Chicago,
6. Personal financial dealings with felon Tony Rezko, convicted of money laundering,
7. $60,000 campaign contributions and support from socialist George Soros and family,
8. $$ Hundreds of thousands in campaign contributions from Franklin Raines's Fannie Mae, while the organization was violating accounting rules,
9. Funnelling $$ thousands to corrupt ACORN housing organization prosecuted for voter fraud,
10. Refusal to turn over a vault copy of his birth certificate to Philadelphia Court, to hide the facts about his citizenship,
11. Supported infanticide by voting 3 times in Illinois legislature to deny liquids or medical attention to living babies after botched abortions (one of the few times he didn't just vote "present"),
12. Political and board affiliations with unrepentant terrorist bomber William Ayers, and
Whatever other "secrets" he has managed to hide from the American people with the complicity of the media elite.
OBAMA IS AN AMORAL AND DISHONEST OPPORTUNIST. HE CANNOT BE TRUSTED!
Connect the dots...
Obama is a Manchurian Candidate. Look at who backed his state legislative run: Ayers. Look at who backed his senate run, Soros. Look at his mentors, Davis and Wright. Look at his associates: Raines and Rezko. Obama's socialist and communist affiliations and indoctrination from childhood are patently obvious.
It doesn't take a psychologist to realize he is a collectivist through and through. He admits it in his books and speeches. The man was warped from childhood. Get over it. He's radical and dangerous.

Perhaps it all can be traced back to the self-loathing he developed from being an unwanted child, abandoned by his father and then his mother, too. So sad.

Obama gave up his law license to keep it from being taken away because he didn't disclose his past illegal drug use on his application. The illegal drug use he stupidly wrote about it in his book.

It's hard choosing the worst in last Thursday's vice presidential debate: Sen. Joe Biden's continual untruths, his certitude in delivering them, or the free pass he got all night long.

And who tops the list for Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac political contributions?

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Invest in Democrats
Published by Lindsay Renick Mayer on July 16, 2008 5:27 PM

The federal government recently announced that it will come to the rescue of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, two embattled mortgage buyers that for years have pursued a lobbying strategy to get lawmakers on their side. Both companies have poured money into lobbying and campaign contributions to federal candidates, parties and committees as a general tactic, but they've also directed those contributions strategically. In the 2006 election cycle, Fannie Mae was giving 53 percent of its total $1.3 million in contributions to Republicans, who controlled Congress at that time. This cycle, with Democrats in control, they've reversed course, giving the party 56 percent of their total $1.1 million in contributions. Similarly, Freddie Mac has given 53 percent of its $555,700 in contributions to Democrats this cycle, compared to the 44 percent it gave during 2006.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have also strategically given more contributions to lawmakers currently sitting on committees that primarily regulate their industry. Fifteen of the 25 lawmakers who have received the most from the two companies combined since the 1990 election sit on either the House Financial Services Committee; the Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs Committee; or the Senate Finance Committee. The others have seats on the powerful Appropriations or Ways & Means committees, are members of the congressional leadership or have run for president. Sen.Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) chairman of the Senate banking committee, has received the most from Fannie and Freddie's PACs and employees ($133,900 since 1989). Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) has received $65,500. Kanjorski chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, and Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are government-sponsored enterprises, or GSEs.
