"Pool sales Plunge"

Duh! Formerly, the real estate market was fully one-third of the Phoenix area / Maricopa County economy. As sales of new homes in monster tract developments were the largest segment of the pool market, it's little wonder that pool contractors are suffering with the housing collapse. Looks like the Republic was hurting for a front page story.

People are still buying and building homes at Silverleaf and Desert Mountain, golf-oriented communities of often seasonal homes for the super rich, places where lots alone go for millions of dollars.

A friend who is retired from a major airline, is now flying a business jet for a locally based private banker. He, the banker, is looking at a new 43 million dollar airplane, because he's fully depreciated (for taxes) the one he owns now. ...no big deal for some people.

So, where the Hoy Paloy are suffering, the rich are continuing spending money, and finding opportunity.

And, since there are trillions of dollars waiting to flood back into the markets, depression would appear to be far less likely that if this money had earlier evaporated in a stock market crash. Here is part of the reason I suspect that our current situation is managed de-leveraging, the cleansing recession that was put off by both Clinton and Bush. Running the money presses in overdrive is the way out.
