Sorry, you are wrong. Differen parties have higher interest in different areas of government. But control? Control rests with the party able to set hearings, bring bills to the floor and veto legislation.

Tell me this...if the republicans had wanted to reduce Fannie's influcence any time between 2000 and 2006, could they have done so? Could they have reduced the size and limits on the originations it bought? On quality? Could the republicans have revamped it?

If not, why not? They had the control of every lever of power. Would the dems have howled? Maybe..but so what.

Barney Frank could do nothing, nothing that had any effect on Freddie or Fannie between 2000 and 2006 except lobby for what he wanted. But the republicans didn't have to give him a thing if they didn't want to.
