"Belief in witchcraft is not reasonable."

People who cast spells expect to see a difference. They and others involved in the spell casting start behaving differently toward the receiver of the spell, and toward people who may be in touch with the receiver. Attitudes are escalated in intensity and interpersonal involvement is often increased. Even just hoovering around the spell receiver to see what happens will have an effect on the person (see Hawthorn effect). The Hawthorne effect is a form of reactivity, and describes a temporary change to behavior or performance in response to a change in the environmental conditions, with the response being typically an improvement in the direction of intent.

The Pygmalion Effect is a widely accepted phenomenon backed by scientific research. The Pygmalion Effect asserts that "one's expectations about a person can eventually lead that person to behave and achieve in ways that confirm those expectations."

This is but one among many rational explanations as to why belief in witchcraft shouldn't be simply dismissed out of hand as not reasonable.
