Right now both AMD and Intel need to license from each other. If AMD were to "give up" and just try to be a Rambus like IP parasite, then (strangely) Intel would need AMD but AMD wouldn't need Intel. (A company that has one or more rapidly depreciating multi-billion dollar FABs needs license rights granted NOW).
