I don't know whether understanding metabolism is beyond me or if I just haven't applied myself, but that stuff makes my eyes roll back in my head.

(I had a friend warn me that my lack of carbs is making me dotty because my brain isn't being fed enough. Maybe I'm too dotty to evaluate his assertion. OTOH, maybe it's the statin. <g>)

Edit: BTW, I've put that question on the back burner for now. My blood glucose in the last few weeks is looking almost normal. Might be the weight loss. Dunno. Continue to watch and wait.
