I'm wondering if this was the cheapest way to simply get their foot in the door? The fabs and the process are more valuable to them than AMD itself.

I disagree. With enough money, it would probably be possible to hire away every decent process engineer currently working for Intel. This would leave Intel scrambling for talent. I'm speaking hypothetically, of course.

AMD has historically had to be much more economical when it came to its manufacturing processes than Intel. Any tilting of the scale has the potential to narrow the gap. Again, whether or not TFC executes is another story...

While I am still long, I am also in a "show me" mode. I remain skeptical until something tangible happens. At the least, bankruptcy has been taken off the table for the short term... That alone is good for longs...
