Easy Al did his part, no doubt about that. Providing a hugh amount of liquidity to GREEDY CRIMINAL PIGS, can result in a lot of what we've seen. But...there were major helpers: 1) Repeal of the Glass-Steagal act in 1999 2) Easy Al - remember, he just provided the money, he didn't tell them to go out and use it in a Ponzi scheme, but he should have known they would. Sort of like let's say you're a Swiss firm who hears rumors about Jews being gassed in Nazi Germany and you manufacture Gassing Trucks which is a great business because Germany is ordering them from you in bucketfuls. You gonna tell 'em at Nuremburg "Honest, we didn't know what they were being used for!"? 3) Crooked democrats who blocked the investigation of FNM and FRE in 2004 because FNM and FRE were big donors to their campaign coffers and other goodies 4) Repeal of the uptick rule 5) Lax oversight by the SEC. When you start pointing in this mess, you need twenty fingers and forty toes to start. And once the market stabilizes and attention turns to the root causes, you're going to see heads roll, on the theory: "It's your head or mine come election time, so better your head". Of course, with Paulson and his junior GS hack in charge, and Ben B a GS wannabe, you can kiss that 800 billion goodbye till it shows up on your tax bill.
