Real world: when a corporation is faced with federal prosecution, it is easier to admit "guilt" or plead nolo contendre than go through the time, expense, battery of lawyers and agony the federal government will put you through. Plus, if you lose, you can often be hit with treble damages.

Any rational corporate executives (read cowards) usually do the expedient thing and pay off the strong-arming to put the situation behind them.

In the case of Bill Gates, I hope he breaks the DOJ.
