I think 'this time it's different' could not be closer to the truth. It is unprecedented in scope and in opacity, and the ability of the fear level to get to a high point and remain there seems logical to me in light of the black hole that has been revealed that can consume entire companies in seconds, hundreds of billions in treasuries before the ink has dried, and who knows what else. It's different because more people are wondering about a thought that has not crossed the frontal lobes of any American since late in the 18th century: will our dollar crack and fail, and if so, then what?

That said, I put a bit into foreign markets today (retirement accounts) and bought back into a royalty trust and ended the day up 10%, something I probably never did before. Could be down 33% next week though so I'm not tagging along to AIGs next party. But I have my first 1/3 hopefully for a good price (PGH).
