Bill Gross and Pimco are their own China. Paulson has two of them, and China squeezes one and Bill the other.

Bet you 2 dozen tasty doughnuts that the deal is already made that Gross will do his <duty> and manage Paulson's 700 billion Capital One credit card. For a nice fat fee of course, and the pick of the litter for Bill and his boys.
