By Nicholas Confessore Friday is the deadline for New Yorkers to register to vote in this year’s presidential election. Around the state, municipal boards of elections are processing a surge of new voter applications, an indication of the high level of interest in this year’s contest between John McCain, the Republican candidate, and Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate. But with that surge of new applications comes backlogs, delays — and complaints from some of our readers that election officials are saying their forms may not be processed in time for them to vote next month. ================ October 9, 2008 1:41 pm Link I registered to vote online through “Rock the Vote” and they had me send my registration to Albany instead of the headquarters in NYC. So I had to re-register at a table in the 42nd St Subway. This irks me that my stuff was sent to the wrong location through a popular site for younger voters such as “Rock the Vote”. How many of these were sent to the wrong place? How many young adults will not be able to vote? — Ryan October 9, 2008 1:58 pm Too late-too late. The mailman just picked my absentee ballot up at the corner mailbox. Surprise-surprise. I’m still a good Democrat as it was a write in vote for Hillary Clinton! — Perley J. Thibodeau Link Perley, you’re such a joke. This is a serious problem but not too concerning in New York. I’m more worried about Ohio, Virginia, Colorado and Florida. — TH . October 9, 2008 2:33 pm Link Brooklyn DMV processed my registration, but incorrectly noted my party so I was turned away at the primaries (which stings, as that matters more in NY than the main election). Here’s hoping I’ll be accepted in November . . . — Diana
