No dispute there. The system is screwed up and neither candidate is inclined to be honest about it.

As I recall, Clinton had a deal with Congress that any new spending had to be offset cuts in other areas or by new revenues, which gradually eroded the deficit as tax revenues increased with the growing economy. Then Bush came along and lopped off a big chunk of revenue AND grew government and entitlements. Of course, it wasn't his fault - 9/11 changed everything.

And Cheney guided him with the mantra: "Regan proved that deficits don't matter."
