well the 70s were too close to the gold standard to count. I guess all we can do is look at how well gold did in the last recession but even that isn't that useful since the early 90s was a classic recession and this is a financial crisis type of thing. I guess we'll just have to see.

I do feel the dollar is artificially low right now because I think we have recently experienced a great deal of deficit spending that is about to stop.
