I've read somethings putting forward that idea - there are some thematic similarities to a book Ayers wrote.

BTW apparently O's first and second books read differently - different ghostwriters probably.

I don't know though - for all I know both Ayers and Obama had help from the same unknown ghostwriter. Most politicians and celebrities who write a book have help - McCain acknowledged his (Mark Salter if I remember right). But they don't always get acknowledged - I expect the publishers know who does what though.

Obama got an advance to write a book, took a long time and lost that contract. An agent got him another advance and he finally completed a book - going off to Bali to write it in seclusion (and alone supposedly). I'm sure a ghostwriter was involved - with Obama writing and talking about his life and the ghost helping out - making sure it got written this time.

O has left virtually no writing of his own from his time in school, in his law practice, or at the U of Chicago - one puny note in a law review article. But suddenly he can write a well-written book, with no sign of writing talent before and since? Nah.

Ayers is a professor and presumably has a job. Would he have the time to go off and cram with O? I'm skeptical. More likely he was helped on his book by the same guy who helped O.
