I'm finding the phenomenon interesting. I'm trying to figure out if people really believe it's all that important or whether it's mostly just a tactic.

At this point in the endgame I think most see it as trivial pawn moves -as it is all they have left. The McCain's camp biggest blunder was losing their trump card as the "safe" candidate - he cratered when voters saw Palin's incompetence, one week the economy had sound fundamentals and a week later he suspends his campaign for an economic crisis - I'm sure the Obama campaign still can't believe their luck with this trifecta!

Anyone hear Obama hammering McCain as erratic and claiming the mantle of the safe choice on the stump in OH yesterday? Whoada thunk it?

I think most of the Ayers talk is tactical, both McCain raising it and the limited dismissals by Obama, which is another way to say he isn't going to dignify the slur with more than token attention.

If you are Obama's campaign manager, you want him doing huge rallies in battleground states and talking about the economy every day. Let McCain and Palin try to crack the news cycle with the Ayers/Wright/Rezko line.

So far it has been a dismal failure.

It's just a stupid tactic. If it is such a serious charge, McCain should bring it up in the last debate. All Obama has to do is recite names of other prominent people--including rock ribbed Republicans--who have also served on the same boards with Ayers. Who have also shaken hands with him. Who have also worked side by side with him. Now, can we get down to serious business instead of this absurdity?

Why do GOP supporters seem incapable of discussing the real issues of the campaign?
1. The $3Trillion war
amazon.com
2. The serious erosion of our civil liberties led by the GOP
3. The decimated economy and stock market
4. Serious levels of rising unemployment
5. A massive housing crisis that is getting worse
6. Health care
