Inject required capital into the banks against equity only. Once you get part of the equity, fire the management and hire a new team.
When the banks are back on even keel, take them public again and get hell out of there.

That's how Sweden managed their major bank and currency crisis back in 1992.
Getting part of the action against the tax payers money spent gets the little man on your side as well. Firing those irresponsible capital gamblers adds to same effect.

This is pragmatism and stands way over any other -ism labels.
