"Many Democrats do it all the time" is a pretty broad brushism and I don't think it's worth addressing.

It may be broad, but its also broadly accurate. Its an argument that gets made again and again, including by Obama and Biden.

Thing is, Bush came into office with budget surpluses on the book and the economy in pretty good shape. He's going to leave his successor monster deficits and the economy in shambles.

He came in to office with the problem that had long been brewing largely because of laws regulation and interventions done before he became president. Did he fail to do something about the problem? Yes, but partially because of Democrats shooting down his attempts to deal with at least one part of the problem. Did he take some steps that made the problem worse? Also yes, although not to the extent that you seem to think or in the ways that most people here seem to think.

As for the deficit, well he gets a ton of blame on that. Sure conditions beyond his control caused much of it, but even considering that he had no discipline on spending.

In 3 1/2 weeks the culture war distraction should retreat back to rightwing radio talk show land where it belongs. God knows those are the only people with any real interest in it.

Win Smith;

Tim, you can make all the bland assertions of opinion as fact you want. That seems to be your job here.

I agree. To suggest as Tim did that tax cuts for all people is class warfare is rather silly IMO. The mcCain campaign is clearly demonizing people in one of the ugliest attacks imaginable. It is just not the same to think that favoring one tax group at the expense of another - something every one of us does all the time - is the same as what Palin is trying to do against Obama. Not even close.......
