He may be a well respected guy, I have no idea. However, it was idiotic to select someone with so many close personal ties with the police department to conduct the investigation.
Certainly, dozens of other well respected people could have been selected to conduct the investigation.

Perception in a high interest case like this matters.

Absolutely dumb and potentially politically motivated.

Palin was selected as McCain's running mate because she fought corruption.

As for Branchflower and the panel ruling Palin was wrong without recommending censure, it only proved the mess was trumped up from the beginning by Palin's enemies. Quite frankly, I believe Branchflower and his cohorts abused their power and wasted the state of Alaska's money in their lame pursuit that only proved their impotence and prejudice.
