To the thread: I have watched this Komatsu debate rage with my jaw slack. My hat is off to Scot for being the one person with any sense of maturity and good investment judgment.

In the first place, it is not impossible that Komatsu might have a better laser than Cymer and be placing 21 of them with Nikon in early 1998. I seriously doubt it, but it's certainly possible. Which is to say Goto might be correct. It's also possible that the laser is inferior and Nikon is still buying 21 of them because of Japanese desire to keep a complete vertical chip-building industry in-country.

But more important, GriffinMrX clearly did everyone a service by bringing the report to their attention. I'm not about to believe this report without more, but I'll tell you one thing. Since the analyst's report exists, I sure as hell want to know about it. I mean, people are sending him HATE MAIL? Now that the smoke has cleared a little, the one thing that is quite clear is that GriffinMrX was making an honest report of a very disturbing analyst's report. Anyone who impugned his character, without knowing for sure whether the report existed or not, should realize that their actions were detrimental to the exchange of investment information. And you really owe him an apology.

Please, everyone, let this be a lesson. If you stifle contrary opinions, you are going to be ill-informed in the long run. The best thing about these message boards is that you hear things you don't necessarily want to hear. Whether this outlandish report about Komatsu is true or false, this Griffin guy was doing us a service by telling us the report existed.

Even if you know for an absolute FACT that Komatsu had no new laser and wasn't placing any with Nikon, you'd want to hear the report. It would help explain a depression in CYMI stock and you could buy more. There is nothing sweeter than seeing a stock drop on a rumor that you know is incorrect and scooping it up.
