My guess is Obama's presumed inauguration will be very much like January 1933 when it was clear that FDR was inheriting a terrible mess, and the nation needed leadership to start fixing all the leaks. It won't be fast or pretty but he will have a chance to apply and prove himself under fire.

I'd rather have a sharp, active leader than an amiable go-along-get-along type who would just watch while the world burned down around him.
