Yes.

Studies of banking crisis throughout history shows that (as long as the action is taken speedily and in a larger enough amount) that this approach stands the best chance of ending the panic and restoring more normal economic conditions.

Most efficient method for recapitalizing the banks --- which problem lies at the route of their failing to lend now.

FAR BETTER then *over-paying* for bad assets!

"At least then the government has a chance to sell the stakes down the road and recover some investment.'

That too! (Always best to act like any SMART INVESTOR would be expected to!)

Oh, I'm sure that if they can sell out at a profit, down the road, (given the pressures of the federal deficits and all), they'll be quite happy to!
