Don't get me wrong. I do blame Bernanke. He runs the Fed. He is responsible (along with the other governors) for monetary policy. That policy was being screwed up by Greenspan and Bernanke continued it. I have been complaining about this for several years not just a few months.

>>Right until 2 months ago both Paulson and Bush were saying everything is great.

True. I see two issues there. First, it is possible that neither Bush nor Paulson understood the problem we faced*. The ignorance on the problem runs to the highest ranks. Second, leaders are inherently conflicted with giving bad news. If they do, it can be self-fulfilling. Thus, leaders are forced into giving the best outlook lest they create or trigger the problem. So some level of deception is inherent - IMO.

But blame Bush if you like.

Unfortunately, neither Obama nor McCain understand the problem. I would add that it is a crap shoot which will field the better financial types to deal with the problem. I give Obama a slight edge.

ij

* I doubt Bush does even now. Not sure Paulson does. There are so many aspects to the problem that most see the details and not the real problem. Kind of a fog-of-war problem.

PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.

The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.

The Obama-Biden campaign released a statement, commenting on the attack. The statement said "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice."
