>>But they are expected to at least see the "forest". And I agree that in this respect Obama has an edge.

I would credit each of the candidates (and Bush) with seeing the forest.

I have listened to both candidates. Best I can tell - neither has a clue what the real problem is or what to do.

I certainly agree that whoever the President is - he will need lots of help in this area and that expecting him to understand this is likely unrealistic.

Interestingly, Paulson has made errors that would not have been errors if done by GS. The deals he has cut have been TOO GOOD (for the government). And by cutting deals that are too good for the government - he has created an unintended consequence in leading the markets to believe that any company in financial difficulty will be destroyed. That has further locked up the financial system.

For you and others that have a serious interest in the financial problem that the US faces I would suggest listening to this video by Nourel Roubini:

Or reading his blogs:

Or read the archive of Bill Gross - his monthly letters:

For real gluttons for economic self-flagellation read ElErian's book:

One more thing, Chinu.

If you have any questions about the economic problems the US is facing, post them to me and I will offer my thoughts. If you think the discussion useful then we can move it to your thread. I will not be good with purely political questions.

We may also find that TD will contribute - and if history is to repeat - they will tell a far different story.

:-)

Funding extremists

"It looks like Jeremiah Wright was just the tip of the iceberg," Stanley Kurtz writes at National Review Online (www.nationalreview.com).

"Not only did Barack Obama savor Wright's sermons, Obama gave legitimacy - and a whole lot of money - to education programs built around the same extremist anti-American ideology preached by Rev. Wright. And guess what? Bill Ayers is still palling around with the same bitterly anti-American Afrocentric ideologues that he and Obama were promoting a decade ago.

"All this is revealed by a bit of digging, combined with a careful study of documents from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, the education foundation Obama and Ayers jointly led in the late 1990s," Mr. Kurtz said.

"John McCain, take note. Obama's tie to Wright is no longer a purely personal question (if it ever was one) about one man's choice of his pastor. The fact that Obama funded extremist Afrocentrists who shared Wright's anti-Americanism means that this is now a matter of public policy, and therefore an entirely legitimate issue in this campaign."
