We had almost no murders per year. Our neighbours are armed and that's okay by me as I can't imagine them going ape with their guns and they are more likely to find them useful to defend themselves and the neighbourhood. I suppose a good test of "fit to carry" is that if the person proposing to be allowed to have a gun can get 4 of their 6 closest property owners to agree, then that would be okay by me. The idea of a community being armed with guns, hand grenades, howitzers, nukes, etc for self defence against fellow citizens seems absurd to me. It's better to cut off the supply of criminals. I have always found it much more pleasant to be in safe surroundings where people don't even contemplate the need to carry armaments than in places where the rules are "Mexican Standoff". Mqurice
