Well you are right related to physical possession which in itself is quite dangerous as it is prone to plain old days robbery <GGG> We all already know that the modern type of legal robbery is incorporated in WS types all over the world from Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, Bombay, London, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris etc. The counterparty risk is also selective - in case you sold LEH bonds that you borrowed is there any counterparty risk? There where plenty of warnings about LEH and any one could have moved his counterparty risk to another entity - which would survive the carnage - therefore the need of knowledge My point is that gold is not a solution to plunge all your savings into as the ultimate asset savior as in good times so in bad times stay diversified.
