many many current subscribers who might have been counted on to merrily upgrade will in fact not be replacing their handsets with more interesting ones any time soon.

I will be upgrading to a smartphone from a Clamshell simply because so many good iphone imitators are out there now on all the networks in the $200-$250 range. Just one data point though.

A tsunami of people will cerf into cyberspace via cyberphones powered by SnapDragon, Gobi and Android. Cyberphone sales will be rampant, with financial system woes barely slowing them. It is a cultural transformation underway and few will be left behind. Amish, remote African tribes, a few Luddites, Ted Kaczynski, might stay out. Anyone with family, friends, jobs, mobility, will be cerfing cyberspace via Android, Gobi, etc.

It will be illegal to not have a device either fitted inside our bodies or at least in our possession. Wearing a seat belt is compulsory, wearing a bicycle helmet is compulsory. Having a driving license is compulsory. Taking shoes off at airports is compulsory. You can be sure having a cyberphone will be compulsory; safety you know = we can't be too safe and safety is compulsory.
