Troubling, yes. IIRC, the Clinton's also used similar heavy-handed tactics to go after their opponents.

Still, the principle reason I do not look forward to an Obama presidency is because of Congress. The president is just one person and Congress writes the laws. Obama will sign what they give him. The dreams of the left for Clinton's presidency where held in check after the first two years by the Republican Congress and the end result was welfare reform and other things that were a net positive. So unless McCain pulls off a miraculous comeback in the remaining three weeks, we just better hope the left isn't able to do too much damage over the next two years, justifying draconian measures and huge new gov't spending programs by pointing to the financial crisis. And we'd better find someone with some sense and fresh ideas to step forward on the GOP side to take Newt's role and retake Congress in 2010.
