Why are folks smuggling silver into china?

- i do not know

- while silver, gold and hallucinagenic drugs are controlled substances in china, one can legally import gold and silver, but must pay tax, which cannot be that high

- i only know about the smuggling because the hk media are reporting large amounts of bars captured by marine police

- the obvious and simple would be truth that there are buyers for the silver

- given time lag involved in smuggling, and costs implicated, the buyers and sellers do not care about spot price volatility

- either chinese have discovered new uses of silver, or

- chinese rediscovered old utilities of silver

- the chinese do claim to have invented paper, ink, printing press, and paper money

- let us watch and brief, maybe they will smuggle usd as well

i am on road in jiangsu province; just arrived fm hk, will deal with solar issues.
