If the problem can not be easily tracked down there are some expert gear heads over here cars.talkzilla.com spin off of SI Bob.

If ya get her running, alternator should bring battery up to about 14.40 volts when running, if alternator is doing its job.
I thought my alternator crapped out last year, out in the bush, and used two batteries to get home...it was a blown alternator fuse...a simple fix and the bonus was i noticed an improvement in my gas mileage without the alternator resistance.
