I agree that Keitel's statemnts in the Q3 CC were a bit vague, but it was just the day after the settlement and he admitted they were still thinking through how to account for the payment.

But a big cash payment is a big cash payment, and it has to show up on the balance sheet somewhere. Also, since it's "revenue", it maybe will also show up as some kind of "unrecognized revenue" to be recognized in future quarters on some kind of schedule.

Sounds from Lauer's 9/10/08 statement that we will not only get an idea of the size of the cash payment, but of the amortization schedule as well.

But we'll have to wait and see what they report on 11/5/08. They can make it transparent, or they could just as easily bury the payment in the cash balance. That will then require a bit a sleuthing to figure out a maybe not definitive number.
