If they buy non-voting shares it could be harder to find a buyer, maybe end up selling them to a sovereign fund.

they will sell them back to the companies, perhaps coincident with a public offering for at least the same value of voting shares.

They could still change the plan and issue convertible preferred, as recommended in FT.com 10/12 by Soros.
