Jim, David, anyone...re: "excess channel inventory"

Is that always a hard seasonal number?

Or would there be a reduction in the target number for inventory according with evolving consumer spending expectations, or modified expectations by carriers of their coming quarter's sales, or how much they want to spend on subsidies depending on cash flow... and so on. How does it work?

Given the fireworks from all angles there's no end of possible surprises, including relaxed anxieties for consumers post-housing rescues, proposed stimulus packages, the conclusion of election uncertainties .... Could be a perfectly fine current quarter by the time it's over, who knows?

So are inventories high based on the last quarter's disappointment, or anticipation of a disappointing current quarter?
