Let me attempt a translation.

Well we now have Lane3, John, and Bill Kristol arguing that McCain needs to change the tone of his campaign and to do so he needs to talk about Wright and not Ayers?

I understand in your mind you see a difference between Wright and Ayers - but most people - in fact I would argue almost everyone is instead interested in an end to the personal attacks and instead want a move towards real solutions for our country. Bill Kristol is not arguing to solidify the base - that has been done - he is arguing for McCain to lighten up start smiling and presenting the old McCain that people use to like and support. How you, John and Kristol think you get there by bringing up Wright again just mystifies me to no end.

Slamming someone for something legitimate is higher in tone, although still a slam.

You give the voter a lot of credit for such nuances. That is fine tuning a campaign which is NOT what Kristol was arguing.
