My doctor's practice, a partnership, routinely tracks Medicare with my supplemental insurance.

As does mine. Now. Wasn't always so.

There was a time when the doctor couldn't take more money for a service than Medicare paid him, and certainly not from the patient. Behind this is the same notion of equality you see in the Canadian and British systems, the notion that people with money shouldn't get better treatment because it tolerates relatively inferior treatment for the poor.
