I agree with your argument with Kristol. I don't think any of it would work save, as I just typed to Steve, some extraneous event--Iran, whatever. But Kristol is right that McCain loses unless he does something else. And something else quite dramatic. But going the way he's going, he loses and loses his reputation. He might just wish to try to save it. It may, in fact, be too late for that. There are now a lot of Joe Kleins in the media who were friends of his who have now completely given up on him.
