Battery problem continued... The jumper cables didn't work because I was hurrying to move three cars so a neighbour could park a truck in our driveway. I hurriedly started a niece's car, put it by my Camry, put the jumper cables on, gave the Camry a crank but it turned weakly and didn't start after two attempts. I didn't have time to mess around, so abandoned the Camry.

My guess is that having just started my niece's car, I had softened up the battery and maybe it's getting old too.

Today, using my wife's car, with a tiny little battery which is also oldish, running her engine and using jumper leads the Camry started okay, ran well, but after leaving it idling and "charging" for 20 minutes there was zero in the battery. There was nothing after a day of charging using the charger either [I wondered whether the charger was not working].

So today the Camry got a new battery and it leaps into life happily.

The old one was only providing 11 volts, not 12. So unless something else goes wrong, it is officially recorded as a failed cell in the battery for unknown reason.

If only financial markets were so easy to fix. Batteries are expensive now [compared with what they were]. I shall take my collection of old batteries in the shed and convert the lead to cash - maybe lead is the new gold. At least lead does something useful, though gold is far less toxic.
