"Care to rephrase that?"

My mistake, I just took your sentence. I've seen this dumb argument so many times I neglected the details.

My bad.

Ok, McCain has butchered Obama's claim, per usual. What Obama said was he would cut the taxes for 95% of working families. Which, of course, McCain has distorted to 95% of Americans. Which could be considered the same unless you want to split hairs.

This you should recognize as a straw man argument.

You have repeated this version.

While the WSJ gets the Obama statement right, they then continue to make a false equality argument. They try to equate income tax to taxes. Everyone who works makes an income. Given that there are also SSI taxes in addition to income taxes, it is not impossible to promise to cut the taxes on working families even if they don't pay income tax.

"since there is no way that 95% of all Americans actually earn an income."

That's true Ten, but Obama will PROVIDE them with an income from your European ski trip money that they can then not pay taxes on.
