But three of the ducklings (conservatives for sure) kept trying to jump on to the ledge standing right next to the ramp, exactly like mama had demonstrated. The mama had to get back in the pool with all the other ducklings and get on the ramp, before these three would do so!" That's a heart warming story. Now, toughen up and never do it again. Those three little conservative ducks will grow up and bear more stubborn little quackers. They'll steal space and food from the liberal ducklings and, eventually, they'll cause trouble. You should have allowed the rules of natural selection to operate and then a few liberal hawks would have enjoyed a tasty meal. Additionally, a few little liberal ducklings would have had a lot more of mama duck's attention. I'll be watching the duck population that swims up and down my creek and river. If there's any change in their behavior over the next years I'll hold you personally responsible and you'll certainly hear about it. Ed
