In case you missed it, when you give someone money to buy food, what you do is encourage them to stand in the handout line instead of actually working. There is no more fundamental example of what we know to be a fact. If a person receives food (or drugs or anything else) for not working, he is incentivized not to work. I think they covered that in your first psychology class.
