The use of the former rather than the latter phrase by a significant but unknown percentage of the population is probably a function of a move from the city to the farm over the last century along with inattentiveness and the inability or incapability of listening to a phrase carefully before repeating it to others. Once misspronounced, the missprounciation obviosly spreads until it's use seems quite common.
