The name of George Wallace, who died in 1998, was invoked a few days ago by Rep. John Lewis, For the benefit of those who don't remember George Wallace, the important lesson is that he performed hateful and racist acts, but was not personally a racist. After he was shot and paralized, he revealed that he cynically and manipulatively used racism as a distraction, just as Rove uses abortion or gay marriage for the same purpose. He definitely didn't put country first. TP
